VII. Setting Goals for the Future

As we let go of past hurts and find healing, it is important to look towards the future with hope and optimism. Setting goals for the future can help us to stay focused and motivated as we continue on our journey of healing and growth.

In Philippians 3:13-14, the Apostle Paul writes, "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." This verse reminds us of the importance of looking forward and pressing on towards our goals, even as we let go of the past.

Setting goals for the future involves taking time to reflect on what we want to achieve and what steps we need to take to get there. These goals may be related to our personal or professional lives, our relationships, or our spiritual growth. It is important to ensure that our goals are in alignment with God's plan for our lives, and that they reflect our values and priorities as followers of Christ.

One way to set goals for the future is to use the SMART goal framework, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This framework encourages us to set goals that are clear, realistic, and measurable, and that have a specific timeframe for completion. By breaking down our goals into smaller, achievable steps, we can stay motivated and track our progress towards our desired outcome.

In addition to setting goals for the future, it is also important to stay flexible and open to God's leading in our lives. This may involve making adjustments to our goals as circumstances change or as we gain new insights and perspectives. It is also important to trust in God's timing and to be patient as we work towards our goals, knowing that His plans for our lives are good and that He is faithful to bring them to completion.

In conclusion, setting goals for the future is an important part of the healing and growth process. By looking forward with hope and optimism, and by setting clear and achievable goals, we can continue to press on towards the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
