Sarah stood outside the airport, her heart racing as she watched the news on her phone. "No, no, no," she muttered to herself, tears streaming down her face. She dialed Tommy's phone number, praying for an answer. But there was only silence.
Finally, she heard a voice on the other end of the line. "Hello?" It was Tommy's manager.
"Is Tommy okay?" Sarah asked, her voice trembling.
There was a pause before the manager spoke. "Sarah, I'm sorry. There's been a crash. The plane he was on... it didn't make it."
Sarah's knees buckled, and she sank to the ground, the phone still pressed to her ear. "No, no, no," she repeated.
The manager continued speaking, but Sarah couldn't focus on his words. All she could think about was Tommy. Her husband, her soulmate, the love of her life. How could he be gone?
Suddenly, Sarah heard a whisper in her ear. "Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." It was Tommy's favorite bible verse, Isaiah 41:10.
"Tommy?" Sarah whispered, looking around frantically.
But there was no one there. The whisper had been in her mind, a figment of her imagination. Or maybe, just maybe, it was a sign from God.
Sarah clutched her phone tightly, feeling numb and lost. How would she go on without Tommy? How would she raise their children alone?
As she sat there on the concrete, she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was her best friend, Julie.
"Sarah, come on," Julie said gently. "Let's go home."
Sarah looked up at her friend, feeling more alone than ever. But she knew that Julie was right. She had to go home and face the reality of her new life.
As they drove away from the airport, Sarah couldn't help but wonder: what would Tommy want her to do now? How could she honor his memory and find meaning in her grief?
Only time would tell.
