Chapter 7: The Unexpected Journey

Emma wakes up to the sound of her phone ringing. She checks the caller ID and sees that it’s her childhood friend, Leah. They haven't talked in a while, so Emma is surprised to hear from her.

"Hey, Leah! How are you?" Emma asks.

"Emma, I'm so glad I caught you! I need your help," Leah says, her voice trembling.

"What's wrong?" Emma asks, concerned.

"It's my sister, Rachel. She's in trouble. She's been arrested, and I don't know what to do," Leah says, her voice breaking.

Emma takes a deep breath and tries to calm Leah down. "Okay, let me see what I can do. Can you tell me what happened?"

Leah tells Emma that Rachel has been struggling with addiction for years and was caught with drugs. Emma feels a lump in her throat as she listens to Leah's story. She remembers how Rachel was always the life of the party when they were younger, but now she's in a completely different place.

"Leah, I'll do what I can to help. I'll call some people and see what resources are available for Rachel. In the meantime, can you tell me where she's being held?"

Leah gives Emma the information she needs, and Emma hangs up the phone feeling overwhelmed. She knows that helping Rachel won't be easy, but she's determined to try.

As Emma drives to the police station, she prays for guidance. She remembers a verse from Psalm 46:1 that she learned when she was younger: "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." She holds onto this verse as she enters the police station, ready to face whatever comes her way.

When Emma finally meets with Rachel, she sees a different person than the one she remembers from their childhood. Rachel looks tired and defeated, her eyes sunken in and her skin pale.

"Emma, I'm so sorry," Rachel says, tears streaming down her face.

"It's okay, Rachel. I'm here to help," Emma says, trying to sound reassuring.

They talk for a while, and Emma learns more about Rachel's struggles. She realizes that Rachel's addiction is not just a physical problem, but a spiritual one as well. Emma feels called to help Rachel find her way back to God, and she knows it won't be easy.

As Emma leaves the police station, she thinks about how she can help Rachel. She knows that it won't be a quick fix, but a journey that they'll take together. She also knows that it's going to be hard, but she's ready to face the challenge. Emma takes a deep breath and recites the verse from Psalm 46:1 once again, feeling comforted by the words.
